Some cafés are built for the Instagram shot. Others are built for the coffee. This guide is for the second kind.

In a city where new coffee spots open every week, there’s a quiet power in the places that don’t chase trends. Cafés that stay true to their craft, serve with consistency, and let the coffee speak for itself.

Our founder Özlem was there earlier this summer and sent us four of her favorite spots.

Monmouth Coffee Company

📍Borough Market

Monmouth has been roasting and pouring since 1978, and it shows in the confidence of every cup. Their Borough Market location is A M A Z I N G: the warm wood counters, the smell of fresh beans, the low hum of conversation outside.

This is where we come for a single-origin brew that’s as carefully sourced as it is brewed, paired with a buttery croissant. Take a seat outside for prime people-watching, or take it with you - a little treat while you explore the market.

Guillam Coffee House

📍Notting Hill

Guillam is a study in restraint. No chalkboard quotes, no gimmicks. Just honest coffee and pastry in a clean, understated space. It’s comfy and stylish without it being overwhelming which is not easy to find.

Order an almond croissant and a flat white. It’s a simple pairing, but one they’ve perfected - flaky layers giving way to a rich almond filling, balanced by the smooth, creamy espresso.

Hermanos Colombian Coffee Roasters

📍Portobello Road

Fun, bright, and always filled with music, Hermanos brings a slice of Colombia to London. The owners work directly with farmers back home, roasting the beans locally so the profiles stay vibrant and distinct.

Trust us, go straight for a pour-over. It’s the purest expression of their work - sweet, aromatic, with the kind of clarity that makes you pause after the first sip. In summer, their cold brew is a quiet masterpiece.

Pophams Bakery

📍Islington & London Fields

Pophams is, first and foremost, a bakery. But it’s one of the few where the coffee can hold its own against the pastries. And those pastries, they’re not the ones you’ve seen a hundred times. Expect flavor combinations you didn’t know you wanted, and textures you’ll dream about later.

Our advice: order whatever’s new and special that week. Pair it with a simple coffee, and let the pastry do the talking.

In a city of endless choice, these are the places we return to - not because they’re loud or flashy, but because they’re honest. They don’t ask for your attention; they earn it, cup by cup, croissant by croissant.
We cant wait to go back.
