We also love mocktails, and we are shaking things up!

We feel like social media has been deep in a mocktail era since the end of the pandemic. Honestly, we get it and we feel it too. We’re now much more informed consumers than we were pre-pandemic and we have all trauma-bonded into a collective health obsession (which honestly? great for us).

While our favorite cocktail is obviously an Espresso Martini, its more responsible older sister, the Shakerato, takes the price for best mocktail. We thought Pema (one of our Baristas in our Roastery) would show you how to prepare our iconic Shakerato recipe so you can host this weekend and show off your mixologist skills If you serve it in a martini glass or a classic short tumbler it looks straight out of a Pinterest board, but it’s genuinely simply to pull off.

🧊 What you'll need:

      • 1 shot (30ml) of freshly brewed espresso
      • 1 teaspoon simple syrup (adjust to taste)
→ replace with 1 teaspoon of sugar if you don’t have any simple syrup at hand, just make sure to dissolve it in the espresso shot first for perfect silky texture
      • Ice (plenty of it - this is essential for the shake)
      • Optional: a pinch of sea salt for extra flavor

🍸 Tools:

      • Cocktail shaker (or a tightly sealed jar)
      • Fine strainer
      • Martini glass or short tumbler

🥄 How to Shake It:

    1. Brew your espresso and let it cool slightly (if you are using sugar, mix it in while your shot is warm so the sugar melts completely).
    2. Add espresso, simple syrup, and salt to your shaker.
    3. Fill the shaker with lots of ice - more than you think you need. Just fill it up.
    4. Shake vigorously for 20–30 seconds. This creates that super cold temperature and perfect frothy crema on top.
    5. Strain into your glass.
    6. For an elegant touch, garnish with three coffee beans or a thin lemon peel.

We love that we can get the kick, looks and feel of an espresso martini without all the alcohol. We usually prepare this for special events in our shop with our House Blend the Bandit. However, our favorite way to prepare this is with our Omni Decaf Albertina. We are part of the anxious generation and the sugar rush is more than enough. This coffee gives you a crema that has nothing to envy our Bandit and because it went through a delicate decaffeination process it conserves all of the flavors without any of the downsides. Perfect to pair with the Shakerato for a true mocktail vibe, staying away from the jitters.

Save this for the next time you’re hosting and thank us later. If you do try it out share a pic with us on Instagram (@codoscoffee), we love to see you guys try our recipes at home. Cheers!
